Step 1:

Dermshield can be left on from 24 to 72 hours after initial application. Fluid buildup underneath your Dermshield is normal, but if fluid begins to leak out, the protective barrier has been broken and the Dermshield should be removed. It is best to remove it in the shower, with running water and a mild soap to help loosen the adhesive. Dry removal of Dermshield is not advised, as it can cause discomfort and damage the skin. Dermshield should be removed similar to a command strip, pulling straight down with the skin to avoid harm to the tattoo. (Do not pull the bandage upwards.)

Step 2:

Once removed, discard the old Dermshield patch in the trash and wash your tattoo with a mild gel or liquid soap, preferably fragrance free. Avoid soaking the tattoo. Allow the tattoo to air dry or pat dry with a clean towel.

Step 3:

Tattoos less than 4-5 days old can be moisturized with coconut oil. Avoid petroleum products like Vaseline, A&D ointment, and Aquaphor. Tattoos older than 5 days that have begun to feel dry to the touch can be moisturized with fragrance-free lotion. Avoid scratching or soaking the tattoo and avoid direct sunlight.

Step 4:

In the following weeks, continue to wash the tattoo in the shower as normal. Avoid scratching and petroleum products. Moisturize with fragrence-free lotion as needed. Continue to avoid direct sunlight.
